Reroute It
Turning Surplus Food into Meals for New York City’s Neighborhoods Most in Need

Our Mission
ReRoute It works to end food insecurity in New York City by recovering food that would otherwise go to waste and bringing it directly to the communities that need it most.
How We Work
We partner with grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, schools, and farms to rescue surplus, unsold, or unmarketable-but-safe food. Our handling follows ServSafe food safety standards, and donations are made in accordance with the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act. We plan to run scheduled pickups up to four days a week and distribute the food to partners the same day, including shelters, soup kitchens, and community pantries. Once a week, our mobile food pantry will distribute rescued food to the public.
The ReRoute It App
The ReRoute It App
The ReRoute It app is our donation and claim platform. Donors list surplus food with a pickup window. Nonprofits browse by category and claim what they can use. For each claim, ReRoute It handles pickup and delivery, or the donor and recipient arrange collection themselves. The app is free for donors and nonprofits.
Who We Serve
Our free, no-documentation model is built to reach low-income individuals and families in New York City, with a focus on food deserts and areas with limited transit access. We are starting in Staten Island and plan to expand across all five boroughs as capacity grows.
Our Services
Food Rescue and Redistribution
Scheduled pickups up to four days per week will recover safe surplus food from NYC grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, schools, and farms. Food is distributed the same day it is picked up through partner agencies and our mobile pantry, keeping it fresh and out of landfills.
Partner Agency Food Routing
On non-pantry days, rescued food will be delivered to shelters, soup kitchens, and community pantries for same-day distribution to their existing clients.
Mobile Food Pantry
A weekly mobile pantry will bring rescued food to underserved NYC neighborhoods at recurring sites. Access is free, with no income verification or documentation required.
